VAContractorTraining, an At Your Pace Online company, reports completed continuing education (CE) hours to the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) within five business days.

Courses approved for licensed electricians, plumbers, and HVAC professionals are reported to DPOR. Gas fitter hours are not reported.

Do I ever need to submit my own hours?

No. One of the conditions that CE providers need to meet to be approved is to electronically submit full rosters of attendees for each course offered. Once DPOR receives this roster, they download it to a licensee's individual tradesman record.

DPOR recommends keeping the certificate of completion easily accessible, because sometimes they ask applicants to include it with their renewal applications.

Our certificates are digital. We recommend downloading and saving a copy in a safe place like an external hard drive or personal cloud storage.

Why hasn't the state confirmed my CE yet?

While we are able to submit course completions to the state within five business days, they do not process these records right away.

The Board for Contractors, a part of DPOR, says it takes its members several days to process the submitted rosters, and two to three weeks for the completed hours to appear on a licensee's record.

Since the Board is not able to confirm an applicant's CE status during its two-to-three-week processing time, we recommend completing CE as soon as possible to avoid delays or late fees. If you wait to take your CE until right before your license is about to expire, this waiting period may make you miss your renewal deadline.

Are you an approved CE provider?

Yes, we offer DPOR-approved CE and pre-license courses. As an At Your Pace Online affiliate (Provider ID 2730-000291), you may notice that our approved provider listing includes other names along with VAContractorTraining.com. This does not impact your education. All of our online CE courses count towards license renewal requirements.
